8th Grade

Students in 8th grade identify key ideas details, analyze craft and structure, and integrate knowledge and ideas in literature. They identify text types and purposes, produce and distribute writing, and research to build and present knowledge. In history, students study the ideas, issues and events from the framing of the Constitution up to World War 1, with an emphasis on America's role in the war. They identify the challenges facing the new nation, with an emphasis on the causes, course and consequences of the Civil War. Students also study the Catholic faith with an emphasis on scripture, Christian life, sacraments, worship, morality, social justice, and Christian faith and practice. In algebra, students will develop a deeper understanding of numbers and their properties. Students will analyze data, graph slopes, and learn to find slope and equations of lines in different ways. In physical science, 8th graders will explore motion, forces, types of energy and how they affect each other.
