Middle School Houses

Middle School Houses

What are Houses?

A House system divides all students into smaller groups (called Houses) across grades.
Think of it like Hogwarts from Harry Potter, but centered on our school’s faith, values, and community spirit.

Each House has its own:

  • Saint name — a special patron Saint whose life and virtues we learn about and try to follow.
  • Color — worn proudly on spirit days and House Games.
  • Symbol or crest — that represents the House’s mission and spirit.

Students stay in the same House throughout middle school, building a close, family-like team inside our larger school.

Why do we have Houses?

Our House system is designed to build:

  • Community & belonging — every student feels seen, valued, and part of something bigger.
  • Healthy, uplifting competition — students earn points for academics, sports, behavior, service, and faith
  • activities.
  • Leadership & personal growth — students can become House captains, lead prayer, or help plan events.
  • School spirit and joy — turning ordinary days into celebrations of teamwork and talent.
  • Deeper faith formation — learning about each House’s Saint and living out their virtues.

How does it work for behavior & the classroom?

Houses can earn (or sometimes lose) points based on:

  • Showing kindness, respect, and responsibility
  • Helping classmates and teachers
  • Participating well in class
  • Following school rules and living out our faith values

Points can be earned right inside the classroom, too! This can be for teamwork, staying on task, excellent answers, or showing leadership.
This transforms good choices into a team effort, where students support one another to do their best every day.

How does it work for competition?

Throughout the year, Houses go head-to-head in:

  • Academic challenges (trivia, spelling bees, math or Bible games)
  • Spirit days and service drives
  • Big end-of-year field days or tournaments

House Games on Fridays

Every Friday, we hold House Games, where Houses compete in fun activities such as:

  • Physical challenges — relay races, obstacle courses, tug-of-war
  • Mental competitions — logic puzzles, human knot, Saint trivia, quick Bible facts

Winning Houses earn House Points, which build up all year toward the House Cup.
It’s a time to show your strengths, cheer on teammates, and have fun together.

Learning about our Saints

Each House’s Saint is more than a name, they are a guide and inspiration.
Throughout the year, students will learn:

  • The story of their House Saint’s life
  • The virtues and choices that made them holy
  • How to follow their example in everyday life

This way, the House system helps us grow in faith and character together, not just compete.
